Paris in 4 Days — A First-Timer's Itinerary from India

Paris rewards a first visit like few cities can — the Eiffel Tower at dusk, the Louvre's endless halls, café terraces and the hilltop lanes of Montmartre. Four days is the classic length: enough to see the icons, wander a few neighbourhoods and still take a day trip to Versailles. It is a Europe trip, so it runs higher than Southeast Asia, but it is one of the most achievable bucket-list cities from India and a forever-favourite for couples and friends alike.

This itinerary clusters sights by area to cut down on metro time — central monuments, the Louvre and Tuileries, the Montmartre hill, and a full day at Versailles. You will walk a lot, ride the metro often, and eat well. Expect around ₹1.4L–2.4L per person all-in depending on flights, hotel choice and how many paid attractions you add.

Your day-by-day Paris plan

Eiffel Tower

Day 1 — Eiffel Tower & the Seine

Day 1

Start with the icon. Go up the Eiffel Tower (book a timed slot) or admire it from Trocadéro and Champ de Mars. Wander to the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées, then close the day with a Seine river cruise as the tower sparkles.

Louvre

Day 2 — Louvre & central Paris

Day 2

Dedicate the morning to the Louvre — see the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, then escape before fatigue. Stroll the Tuileries, Place de la Concorde and Île de la Cité, with Notre-Dame's exterior and Sainte-Chapelle's stained glass nearby.

Montmartre

Day 3 — Montmartre & artsy Paris

Day 3

Climb to Montmartre for the white-domed Sacré-Cœur and sweeping city views. Lose yourself in the painters' square, ivy-clad lanes and cafés, then drop down to the Moulin Rouge area. A slower, more romantic day on foot.

Day 4 — Day trip to Versailles

Day 4

Ride the RER train out to the Palace of Versailles — the Hall of Mirrors, royal apartments and vast gardens. Go early to beat queues and book tickets ahead. Back in Paris by evening for a final dinner in the Marais or Latin Quarter.

What to budget for

  • Covers the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Montmartre and a Versailles day trip in four full days
  • A pricier Europe city — budget roughly ₹1.4L–2.4L per person including flights and hotels
  • A Schengen visa is required in advance — France is in the Schengen area, no visa on arrival for Indians
  • The metro and walking handle almost everything — no car needed in the city

Best time to visit

April to June and September to October are ideal — mild weather, long days and gardens in bloom or autumn colour, though these are also busy. July and August are warm and crowded with tourists, while many Parisians leave on holiday. Winter is cheaper and atmospheric, with festive lights from late November, but expect short, grey days. Whenever you go, France sits in the Schengen area, so apply for your visa weeks ahead. Shoulder seasons usually offer the best mix of decent weather and softer airfares and hotel rates from India.

🎯 Build My Paris Trip

Good to know before you go

  • Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa applied for in advance — France is in the Schengen zone, with no visa on arrival
  • Getting around is easy with the Paris metro — buy a Navigo or carnet of tickets; central sights are also very walkable
  • Currency is the Euro — carry a forex card, and watch for pickpockets around major monuments and on the metro
  • Book the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Versailles online in advance — walk-up queues can swallow hours of your day

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 4-day Paris trip cost from India?

Around ₹1.4L–2.4L per person all-in. Return flights run roughly ₹50k–85k, mid-range hotels ₹8k–15k a night, plus attractions, the metro and meals. It is pricier than Southeast Asia, but Paris is one of the more attainable Europe bucket-list cities.

Do Indians need a visa for Paris?

Yes. France is in the Schengen area, so Indian travellers must apply for a Schengen visa in advance — there is no visa on arrival. Apply 4–8 weeks before departure with confirmed flights, hotel bookings and travel insurance.

Is 4 days enough for Paris?

Four days is the classic length for a first visit — enough for the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Montmartre and a Versailles day trip without burning out. With a fifth day you could add the Musée d'Orsay, the Marais or a Disneyland Paris outing.

Is the Versailles day trip worth it?

For most first-timers, yes. The palace and gardens are extraordinary and easy to reach by RER train in about 45 minutes. Go early, book a timed ticket, and you will dodge the worst queues. Skip it only if grand palaces do not excite you.
