Abu Dhabi in 2 Days: The Essential Itinerary

Abu Dhabi is the UAE's calmer, grander capital — and the perfect one-or-two-day add-on to a Dubai trip (they're about 90 minutes apart). In two days you can see the breathtaking Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the thrills of Yas Island and a slower, more cultural side of the Emirates than Dubai's skyline. This plan makes the most of a short stay.

Many people do Abu Dhabi as a day trip from Dubai, but staying a night lets you catch the Grand Mosque at both day and dusk and enjoy Yas Island properly. Below is a two-day plan you can compress into one long day if needed, plus when to go and what to know.

Your Abu Dhabi plan

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Day 1 morning

One of the most beautiful buildings on earth — 82 gleaming white domes, the world's largest hand-knotted carpet, and reflective pools. Go early to beat the heat and crowds; entry is free but dress code is strict (modest clothing, covered for women — abayas are provided). Stunning again at dusk when it's lit.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

Louvre Abu Dhabi

Day 1 afternoon

Jean Nouvel's 'rain of light' dome is worth the visit alone, over a genuinely world-class art collection spanning civilisations. A cool, calm, air-conditioned highlight for the hottest part of the day, right on the water at Saadiyat.

Yas Island thrills

Day 2

Pick your park: Ferrari World (the world's fastest roller coaster), Warner Bros. World (indoor, great in summer), or Yas Waterworld. Yas Island is built for a full fun day and is a hit with families and thrill-seekers alike.

Qasr Al Watan & the corniche

either day

Tour the Presidential Palace, Qasr Al Watan, for jaw-dropping halls and a look at Emirati statecraft, then unwind along the Abu Dhabi corniche — a clean, breezy waterfront promenade with beaches, perfect at sunset.

What to budget for

  • Day 1 — Culture: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the corniche at sunset.
  • Day 2 — Yas Island: Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World, plus Qasr Al Watan palace.
  • It pairs perfectly with Dubai — about 90 minutes by car or coach between the two.
  • The Grand Mosque is free to enter; most other attractions need pre-booked tickets.

Figures are realistic ballparks and vary with season, dates and how early you book. Use the planner for live prices.

Best time to visit

Like the rest of the UAE, Abu Dhabi is most comfortable from November to March, when the weather is warm rather than scorching — ideal for the outdoor mosque and corniche, and the priciest season. April and October are a workable, cheaper shoulder. June to September is very hot, which suits the indoor attractions (the Louvre, Warner Bros. World, malls) and brings the best hotel deals. Whenever you go, do the Grand Mosque and corniche early or late and keep midday for air-conditioned stops.

🎯 Build My UAE Trip

Good to know before you go

  • Indian passport holders need a UAE tourist visa — the same visa covers Dubai and Abu Dhabi, so a combined trip needs just one.
  • The Grand Mosque has a strict dress code: shoulders, knees and (for women) hair covered; modest robes are lent free at the entrance. Entry is free but book a time slot online.
  • It's an easy 90-minute drive or coach from Dubai — many visitors do Abu Dhabi as a day trip, but one night lets you see the mosque at dusk and do Yas Island properly.
  • Pre-book Yas Island parks, the Louvre and Qasr Al Watan online to save money and time. Taxis are reasonable; distances between sights are larger than in Dubai.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2 days enough for Abu Dhabi?

Yes — two days covers the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Louvre, a Yas Island theme park and the corniche or Qasr Al Watan. You can even compress the highlights into one long day trip from Dubai if time is tight.

Can you visit Abu Dhabi from Dubai?

Easily — it's about a 90-minute drive or coach, and the same UAE visa covers both. Many travellers do Abu Dhabi as a day trip from Dubai, though staying a night lets you see the Grand Mosque at dusk.

How much does an Abu Dhabi trip cost?

As a 2-day add-on, budget roughly ₹20,000–35,000 per person on top of a Dubai trip, covering a night's stay, attractions and transport. The Grand Mosque is free; theme parks and the Louvre are the main ticketed costs.

Do you need to cover up at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque?

Yes — modest dress is required: shoulders and knees covered for everyone, and hair covered for women. Free robes (abayas) are provided at the entrance if you're not dressed accordingly.
